Cafe Namaste community volunteers at Health in the Hood.

Be good. Do good. Service is one of our core values and we're thrilled to launch our monthly volunteer meetups again tin the community. Last Sunday, June 27, a group of Cafe Namaste members met in Opa Locka to help build a vegetable garden for the non-profit, Health in the Hood. Health in the Hood is a non-profit with a mission to provide equal food access for all.

The team cleared weeds and old plants to create space for the new vegetables that will be planted in the fall.

Founded by Executive Director, Asha Walker in 2013, Health in the Hood set out to connect communities to wellness with a simple idea to create local vegetable gardens to feed and inform communities in need. What they do:

  • End food insecurity in underserved neighborhoods

  • Build urban vegetable farms

  • Distribute free produce

  • Teach nutrition and fitness

  • Establish sustainable local food ecosystems

Join us next month to volunteer at the end of July. Make sure you subscribe to our newsletter!
